Normal

Normal

Living in central MN in the same house for 16 years. We had no complaints about our current living situation. Only 15 minutes from anything you could want, need or desire. stores, Restaurants, we had 2 movie theaters less than 10 min from our house.

We, or I rather, had woken up one morning with the desire to become a farmer. The almost 11 acres we lived on was not the right mix for the farming I was dreaming of. We had chickens and a coop. We had ducks and a pond. We even had rabbits. I wanted more.

Our New Normal

Quirky Acres

After some deliberation between the adults in the house we took a move up with the children.

Starting with the littles. Fuzz said it sounded like fun. He was scared of changing schools but willing to take it on. If, and only if, he was able to get a pig of his own. Stu, the more adventurous of the two littles, was all in. He too wished for his own animals. A horse was what his heart told him he needed.

The perfect farm

After months of searching we fell upon some real estate that we had actually looked at in the preliminary days of our search. This 32 acre farm we had driven to in the dead of winter after a snow storm to investigate before we even had a realtor. By the time we had a realtor this farm was pending a sale.

Fast forward a month. Our realtor called to tell us she had a listing that was perfect for us. This listing just came back on the market after a sale fell through at the last minute.

We were so excited... We almost said that we wanted to put in an offer with out even seeing it.

Move In Month

Truth is it took a few months to fully move everything to the new place. The majority of our stuff was moved in the first couple weeks. We paid a company to move the inside stuff. This is the first time we have paid a service for this. It was extremely worth it. The worst part about moving day was the headache I had from making the many, many, many decisions as to where our stuff needed to go.

We had some cleanup and fence fixing to do before we could get the birds home. We build a new chicken enclosure in the barn for the few bird we still had back at the old place. We then were able to move the birds home. Having somewhere between 15 and 20 we had to by more bird friends as soon as we could. knowing if we got many more their current enclosure would be too small, plans on a new bigger chicken coop started brewing almost immediately after the birds arrival home.

Also a lot of work had to be done on the farm to get animals, It had been several years since any animals had lived on this land.
